Welcome to Troop 56!

Troop 56 was founded 11/12/13 and formally expanded its program to include girls in January 2023.

Troop 56 is carrying on the tradition of excellence of both, Cub Scout Pack 56, and the legendary former *Troop 22, with an emphasis on the outdoors.

The Troop embodies the ideals of Scouting and of Lusher Charter School now known as "The Willow School:

On my honor, I will do my best. To do my duty to god and my country and to obey the Scout Law; To help other people at all times; To keep myself physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.

Scout Law
A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.

Troop 56 motto
Help the other fellow

Last regular meeting of the year!

Posted on May 11 2025 - 3:22pm

Tuesday is the last regular scout meeting of the year.  Remember to go to the web site to see the full announcements.  The eBlast only shows part of the announcements.

Eagle Court of Honor

Posted on May 11 2025 - 3:20pm

All Scouts should plan on attending the last Court of Honor of the year.  All scouts have a roll to play in this event! The main event will be the Eagle Court of Honor for Robert Carroll.  Parents are invited but we must have an accurate count.  We will be having food and refreshments and we need an accurate count.  We will also be awarding any outstanding rank advancement, Merit Badges and Awards to Scouts in attendance.

Schedule for Summer Camp - attached!

Posted on Apr 15 2025 - 5:30pm

Hello Scouts and Adults,

For those that have registered already for summer camp, I saw that many of the courses were already starting to fill up, so I have put you in some classes. Thank you for those that submitted requests, for others as we call it Scoutmaster's Choice! Actually, I did do my best to look at your earnings report and put things in that you did not have and get you credit towards rank, and also have things that are interesting! There are so many things that Hood has that are different - I wish I could take the Auto Mechanics and welding - I hope we have many of the festive little wrens this year filling interesting places with nests! If you have horrible objections to your courses, do raise your hands. I will send out your earnings report in just a moment so you can doublecheck.

Summer Camp Courses, driving for Tiak, etc.

Posted on Apr 14 2025 - 1:13pm

Hello Scouts and Parents,

A quick note, thank you for RSVPing for camping at Tiak - we do need parent volunteers to drive - one up and one back please. We love your scouts, but do not love driving them. Let Scoutmaster Nancy know your availability. Sharing is caring. Scouts attending summer camp, merit badge registration is OPEN - the guide has been posted on the camp calendar page here https://neworleans56.mytroop.us/node/2689 please send me your requests ASAP and I will do my best. I will be putting something in over the weekend whether I hear from you or not to hold a spot. Note that the age restrictions are also in the guidebook (pistol, ATV, COPE, shotgun, lifeguard, etc.) any additional costs will be invoiced separately as well. All scouts and parents should read the leader guidebook in its entirety - then questions should go to the patrol leader, senior patrol leader then your friendly scoutmaster. Please ensure your physical is current well before camp. If you have not registered by tomorrow (04/15) fees do increase :). Have a great week!

Camping, Registration Deadlines, Spring break!

Posted on Apr 11 2025 - 3:47pm

Hello Scouts and Adults,

The calendar has been updated and some of the dates for registration has been added. Registration close for Tiak camping is tomorrow (04/12) and SUMMER CAMP REGISTRATION CLOSE DATE IS 04/25. Next week is spring break so no meeting- have fun and be safe! For those new to the troop, your user id is your first initial and last name and there is a link below your user id where you can set/reset your password. Remember it is the scout responsibility to register (yes OR NO) and the parents responsibility to pay :) If adults are able to drive but do not want to attend, please put that information as a note with your registration information. It is very important not to assume someone is driving your scout. Also, if you order items (Tshirts and neckers can only be purchased through us) you do need to follow up with an email as we don't see that information automatically and Tshirts have sizes and colors. nexnicios@gmail.com is that email. Thank you - see you in 2 weeks!

Hello new scouts, upcoming weekend activities, new events and SHORTS on sale!

Posted on Mar 30 2025 - 3:43pm

We have a lot of information to cover this week. First a big welcome to our AOLs who are now welcome to attend any and all Troop events! Please note time and dates on our calendar - especially summer camp which requires registration and everything requires physicals so get them done early. Also, I have updated this weekends education offerings, the Public Health Merit Badge Course (registration required through council) and the related Genealogy education through the library (there is a link to the merit badge). NYLT training is on the calendar and registration is open - that is in July for those interested. We also have a camping trip on the calendar, please RSVP yes or no. Also, there are shorts on sale at Costco for those in need - $9.99 for men and $14.99 for women (a little shorter but still fine). They don't usually stay in stock long, just sayin...
