Welcome to Troop 56!

Troop 56 was founded 11/12/13 and formally expanded its program to include girls in January 2023. 

Troop 56 is carrying on the tradition of excellence of both, Cub Scout Pack 56, and the legendary former *Troop 22, with an emphasis on the outdoors.

The Troop embodies the ideals of Scouting and of Lusher Charter School now known as "The Willow School:

 *Troop 22 was a Troop at Lusher Charter School in the 50s and 60s that did extraordinary things including sailing to Cuba and was known as a PineTree Troop which meant they could make and break camp in 10 minutes.

Tree Planting, Winterish Camp and Tree and Greenery on Sale!

Next event - Tree planting - check the calendar and sign up! This should be a fun time! Also your schedules are posted on the calendar entry for Winterish camp. BIG NEWS - the Tree and Greenery site is up and taking orders. Remember that this is the ONLY fundraiser we do for the cubs and troop jointly. We sell out every year. If you can't participate in purchasing, your family should consider making a donation to the troop so we can keep our expenses and dues low. We did just purchase two news stoves and replacement tents. Also keep the unloading dates and delivery dates on your calendar. Consider the delivery dates MANDATORY for all scouts unless you are out of town. The flyers are attached - Parentals if you could please distribute on social media it would be helpful. Hello Scouts and supporters! Remember no scout meeting tomorrow. Duckies get thee feathers signed up for Winterish camp - the full guide for is posted on the calendar as well as merit badge schedules - for those that gave preferences - I tried - for those that didn't - I put you in something as spots were filling. This weekend we have scoutmaster coffee at Westbank location Saturday and Uptown Sunday but only if there are signups- otherwise your scoutmaster shall sleep in! Renaissance festival date is set! Shrimpfest, Winterish Camp Registration, Tree Planting, Survey

Hello All, Lots of activities updated. If you were waiting on merit badge updates from the recent merit badge college - everything is in your advancement records and updates have been sent! Remember to read through your rank requirements and see what crosses over from your merit badges. Registration for you to volunteer for Shrimpfest is on the calendar and here - https://louisianashrimpfestival.org/volunteer-sign-up Get out there and help protect our shrimp industry! Winterish Camp registration is OPEN the information is on the calendar - I have confirmed our registration for a bunkhouse but I need to put you in courses and I have only a certain number of spots - claim them and send an email (with a cc to an adult or scout) to Scoutmaster Nancy with your choices for merit badges - we will also do some independent work as needed if your courses are not offered. Valuable time with your Scoutmaster will be available! Also tree planting info is updated in November. Patrols, events, winterish camp and yes, dues.

What beautiful weather to get out there! Our new patrols are in place and this week please remember to bring the wannigans to the meeting and a new one will be coming as we have grown to FOUR patrols. Please remember to bring your scout handbooks and if you have not gotten one, please get one from the scout shop in Metairie or order one delivered (also get a cover as you will keep this your entire life! We have lots of confirmed dates including supporting through service hours for the Shrimp fest and our location for winterish camp has been CONFIRMED at Camp Tiak! I have posted the leader guide which has the list of the merit badge and am working to finalize if we can rent the bunkhouses so I can get the costs for you but dates are firm. Langston will be your SPL for that event. Also we will firm up our trip to the Renaissance Festival and the details for the Tree planting this week (your scoutmasters fingers are tired). Everyone also should have received your dues renewal invoice - sorry - it is necessary. See you on Tuesday!

Patrol Leader weekly duties and Patrol expectations

As discussed at Tuesday's meeting these are the expectations of the patrol leaders and patrols.

Patrol Leaders shall reach out and communicate with any members of their patrol absent from the weekly meeting to update the Scout on what occurred at the meeting and to also see if there is anything needed to be done to ensure or encouraged Scout to attend the next meeting.  Patrol leader will be given a report at every meeting of the progress of the patrol ports all of its members achieving first class rank.

Merit Badge College registration is Open, Lots of updates and activities!

Hello Scouts and Parents! I believe we have all our new members in the system as well as a LOT of new activities added to the calendar. Registration for the Cataouatche Merit Badge College is Open - you can find the information on our calendar for Sept 27 or here. The new patrol patches have arrived and will be given to the patrol leaders this week so get out those sewing needles and update your uniforms! Great time at the LSU game for those of us that made the hike, literally and figuratively.Geaux Tigers! You will see I have added a bunch of service opportunities and you are going to see me add things that you can get credit for if you are working towards a merit badge.
